Previously, if someone wanted to make a custom-ordered car purchase, it usually meant that it was a rare (and expensive) car or they were looking for something specific. Either way, the car buyers were willing to pay for the right to buy something exclusive, even if they knew it would likely take extra time to finish the order. The status symbol of purchasing that unique vehicle offset the wait time rather than purchasing a new car from the local inventory. Fast forward to today, and the landscape has dramatically shifted. You may never again see rows and rows of new vehicles to choose from, so if you need something specific, then buying directly from the manufacturer is your best option. If you need a car immediately, then purchasing from the available vehicles on the lot is your best option.
The absolute best part of custom ordering is that you are able to choose the exact upgrades you want. You can choose leather seats, NAV, and AWD, and it can even be your lucky color: blue! When buying from cars in stock, you may have needed to compromise depending on cars that were available. You might be able to get all of the tech you wanted, but it was FWD instead of AWD. Or they had All-Wheel Drive, but it comes with cloth seats instead of leather. If you custom order, you can get what you want.
When you think about it, by custom ordering your brand-new car from the manufacturer, you don’t pay for the upgrade you don’t want. Maybe you were looking for AWD and NAV but didn’t care about the color or leather seating. To be fair, you might not be able to individually choose every option ala carte, yet by custom ordering your brand-new car, you can reduce the undesirable upgrades. Be sure to review the option packages, as they tend to offer the most popular upgrades combined together.
